Research & Development

A four-year research project (2020-2024) funded with over €12 million by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. TRUST-PV contributed to improving the performance and reliability of photovoltaic systems. To this end, the project supported the development of photovoltaic components and solutions compatible with O&M and grid-friendly requirements, applicable to large portfolios of distributed assets and utility-scale plants.

TRUST-PV innovations were tested and demonstrated in real operating conditions, with all data collected across the entire value chain feeding into a decision-support platform based on artificial intelligence and Industry 4.0 concepts. The project was driven by an industrial approach and brought together 20 organizations representing the full photovoltaic value chain.

The objective of TRUST-PV was to increase the performance and reliability of photovoltaic components—through the design of O&M-friendly PV modules, robust and reliable inverter solutions, and aftermarket coatings—as well as of photovoltaic plants, by addressing engineering, accurate design, construction, operation, repowering and end-of-life management. The project also focused on large portfolios of distributed assets and utility-scale plants, leveraging tools such as digital twins, advanced forecasting and statistical analysis.
